Hundreds of Lower Mainland residents are attacking their stockpiles of excess
belongings with a vengeance. The Adoptive Families Association of BC is making
it easy to donate clutter, learn how to scale down and support the 1000 children
in our province who are waiting for families.
Be Organized Burnaby, the lower mainland’s largest garage sale is being held at
Bonsor Recreation Center on September 17th, 10am-3pm. This fundraiser promises
to be a great way to get rid of unwanted possessions and find great bargains. In
the week preceding the garage sale, local businesses including Ikea, Office
Depot, Consign Home, Good Riddance Professional Organizing Solutions, Junkyard
Dawgs and GarageTek are supplying the experts at a series of FREE seminars to
teach you how to control clutter permanently and get organized.
In lieu of admission, organizers are asking participants to bring clutter to
donate to the sale.
The workshops include:
• Making Your Garage Safe and Clutter-Free
• Getting the Most from Your Home Office
• Waste Not, Want Lots!
• Organizing Your Bedroom
• Spring Free from Clutter - Find Hidden Cash
They are being held at: Sept 12 and 14th 7-8:30 PM
AFABC 7342 Winston Street, Burnaby.
Requested donations include: gently used clothing, toys, books, household items,
tools and small furniture.
Simone Harty, Development Manager says:
“This is a great way to help the community to help themselves. More donations
and more volunteers are needed.”
“Our organizing workshops have great tips on offer and we are really excited to
have Robert Holtby, the interior specialist for IKEA’s Coquitlam store and one
of the interior designers from the television show ‘Space for Living’ supporting
us and armed with advise.”

Putting the Fun into Fundraising with a Thrilling Clothing Swap
(download PDF)
In February, Good Riddance sponsored a clothing swap for the Adoptive Families Association of BC at their location in Burnaby. The event attracted over 30 women who brought their gently worn clothing and accessories with the intent to swap these underused garments for castoffs provided by other guests. The evening served as an opportunity for invitees to edit their closets and update their wardrobes at no cost, while supporting important work conducted by the non-profit. More than that, it was a fun evening out, complete with food and prizes. There is nothing like a group shopping experience to create instant bonds between complete strangers.
What happened? Attendees made a donation to the organization in lieu of admission. People perceived that the event provided excellent value. Everyone enthusiastically indicated that they would attend future clothing swaps. Plans are already in the works for a follow-up event in April 21st.
Imagine this … Good Riddance Professional Organizing would like to propose a similar event on behalf of your organization, allowing you to interact with your members and donors in party atmosphere to get your message out. We provide the service and expertise and to set up and run the evening.
This includes: • Event planning and management • Invitation and marketing communications • Shopping bags • Racks, mirrors and clothes hangers • Light snacks and beverages • Door prizes • Disposal of leftover garments • Organizing Tip handout for maintaining control of your closets
Why should you do this? 1. New fundraising concept that’s exciting 2. Requires little effort on your part 3. Minimal expenses 4. Repeatable and sustainable event –viral marketing 5. Opportunity to increase your roster of donors through exposure to new people 6. Show your appreciation to existing members and donors 7. Promotes recycling 8. Fun, fun, fun!!!!!
